About Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, which literally translates from Mandarin to "Rainbow Bridge International Airport," is one of two airports located in Shanghai, China. Located less than 10 miles from the city center of Shanghai, for many years Hongqiao was the only airport in the city that offered international flights. This changed in 1999, when construction on Shanghai Pudong International Airport was completed. Currently, most flights from Hongqiao are regional, although there are daily departures to Seoul, South Korea and Tokyo, Japan.
The fourth busiest airport in China, Hongqiao is located in the Changning District, and is also the headquarters of China Eastern Airlines, a major airline that has many local, regional, and international flights every day.
The airport has a variety of amenities available to travelers. One of these is the option of hiring uniformed porters to tote baggage to and from the terminal. However, foreign travelers should be aware that tipping the porters is prohibited.
